more preparations…

So far, this blog seems to be focused primarily on my car. There is a very good reason for this. I will be spending about 15+ days driving all the way to Victoria with my Mom. And let’s face it. The ft86 platform is not exactly a roomy car to pack luggage. I figure it would be worth my while to maximum the cargo space potential in this vehicle.

I know the original designer of the ft86 intended for the vehicle to hold 4 extra sets of tires in the back trunk with the seats folded down for track day. I also know the back seats were placed there for insurance purposes, since a 2 door/2seat vehicle would be considered too “sporty”, and would command a higher insurance rate. Yeah. I know. The reality is, it is impossible to fit anybody who is over 3 feet tall in the back seat. And if I place any kind of luggage or supplies on the back seat, the front seat can not be reclined back all the way for comfortable sleeping position. So I figure I’d do what a lot of BRZ/FRS owners do, and just do a back seat delete. That way, I can store more luggage comfortably without worrying about sacrificing reclining position for the front seat.

After removing the seats, foam, and other misc. items, there is so much more room for activities!
The backseat is now removed, with the fuel pump wires exposed…

I have removed all the emergency hardware from the foam inserts, wrapped them in a rag to prevent rattling, and tucked it into the corner.

Items I have removed so far, being stored in my basement.

After everything is removed, I draped a piece of black felt over everything to provide some minor noise dampening, and to also give the illusion of chairs still installed in this vehicle from a quick glance outside. Also, I will be tinting my windows soon, so it will also help reduce visibility of my lack of seats. I tried taking pictures of the felt covering, but it doesn’t seem to show up very well at night. I might take some clearer pictures at a later time.

preparations…

I have been driving my BRZ for several months now, and have been having a blast everyday. People have been complaining about the lack of HP. Perhaps it’s my lack of experience as a “racing driver”, but I personally think the power performance of this car as is has plenty of go for me to get into enough trouble as it is. Also, the geometry of the suspension set up has allowed me to corner like a beast, and the Brembo big brake kit allows me to stop on a dime.

However, from my research, I have discovered that drivers of the FT86 platform all perform the sound tube delete from the engine bay. Apparently, Toyota and Subaru decided to include a “sound tube” device from the engine intake and pipe the engine noise straight into the passenger side cabin foot well to give the illusion of a more “powerful” sounding car. It’s a 2.0L 4cylinder naturally aspirated engine. I’m not fooling anyone…

The endcap I have placed inside the foot well.

So what is the verdict? The cabin is almost too quiet and boring. But now I can hear the GPS directions even at a low volume. I say it’s a worthwhile mod. I might re-install it down the road just for shits and giggles, or perhaps some kind of throatier exhaust. But at the same time, I appreciate having a quiet and calm cabin.

There appears to be plenty of room in the engine bay. Jackson Racing supercharger kit? Yes? I should start a Patreon…

welcome to my little corner on the internet

Hello there! As many of you have already known, there have been several significant changes in my life, primarily with the status of my employment. I’m unemployed! Hooray!

All joking aside, one of the biggest life goal of mine is to do a coast-to-coast solo road trip across Canada. It just so happens that several things happened in my life that has allowed me to realize this dream sooner than later.

  • I am in the process of winding down and sun-setting my existing business, and renting out the unit to someone else
  • My sister-in-law is due to give birth this September in Vancouver
  • I just purchased a new car

I figure I should take advantage of this situation, and visit my future niece/nephew before I come back home to start my new job.

I’m actually not much of a web designer, and I don’t have much experience with WordPress or CSS. So please forgive me if this blog is a little bland in the aesthetics department.

This blog will document and share my adventures along the way. I hope you enjoy your stay.
