preparations…

I have been driving my BRZ for several months now, and have been having a blast everyday. People have been complaining about the lack of HP. Perhaps it’s my lack of experience as a “racing driver”, but I personally think the power performance of this car as is has plenty of go for me to get into enough trouble as it is. Also, the geometry of the suspension set up has allowed me to corner like a beast, and the Brembo big brake kit allows me to stop on a dime.

However, from my research, I have discovered that drivers of the FT86 platform all perform the sound tube delete from the engine bay. Apparently, Toyota and Subaru decided to include a “sound tube” device from the engine intake and pipe the engine noise straight into the passenger side cabin foot well to give the illusion of a more “powerful” sounding car. It’s a 2.0L 4cylinder naturally aspirated engine. I’m not fooling anyone…

The two endcaps I purchased from Home Depot
The “Sound Tube” I am removing
The endcap I have placed inside the foot well.

So what is the verdict? The cabin is almost too quiet and boring. But now I can hear the GPS directions even at a low volume. I say it’s a worthwhile mod. I might re-install it down the road just for shits and giggles, or perhaps some kind of throatier exhaust. But at the same time, I appreciate having a quiet and calm cabin.

There appears to be plenty of room in the engine bay. Jackson Racing supercharger kit? Yes? I should start a Patreon…
